Bird mask

Years ago, I attended an annual gala with a masquerade theme. I wanted a spectacular mask, but not a typical, store-bought one—I wanted something truly unique. So, I decided to make one myself.

After finding some inspiration online, I crafted the base from cardboard, adorned it with beads and sequins, reinforced it with stiff wire, and attached an elastic band. Making the mask was incredibly fun, but wearing it was even better.

Since the materials I used weren’t very rugged, the mask wasn’t built to last forever, but it still looks beautiful. Because I had poured so much heart and effort into it, I wanted to preserve it. I decided to frame it against a fitting background, and now it serves as a wonderful keepsake.

Mask materials: Paper, wire, beads, sequins, wood glue, elastic band.

Background: Acrylics on paper
